Overview


The Department of Measures and Weights was the previous name of the Department of Legal Metrology in Rajasthan. It was renamed the Department of Legal Metrology to conform to the rules of the International Organization of Legal Metrology, of which India is a member. The purpose of these guidelines was to implement the 2009 Legal Metrology Act. Pre-packaged commodities: what are they?


According to the definition given in Section 2, The clause (l) of the Act on Legal Metrology, 2009, a "pre-packaged commodity" is one that has been placed in a packaging of any kind, sealed or not, to ensure that the product inside has a fixed quantity, without the customer being present. Pre-packaged goods are, to put it simply, those that have been packaged without requiring a certain quantity from the customer.

Date of LMPC Registration


The Packaged Commodity Registration must be obtained by makers, packers, and importers who sell, deliver, and distribute pre-packaged commodities within ninety days after the start of pre-packaging operations, as per the LMPC Rules. According to the 2017 modification rules for Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities), applications for LMPC Certificates for import that are submitted after the importation procedure has started or after the date pre-packaged operations started will be subject to a late fee of Rs. 5000.
