  • Category I: Rigid plastic packaging
  • Category II: Flexible plastic packaging (single or multi-layer), plastic sheets, carry bags, sachets, or pouches.
  • Category III: Multi Layered plastic packaging (at least one layer of plastic and one layer of non-plastic material).
  • Category IV: Plastic sheets or similar items used for packaging, including compostable plastics.

Banned Plastic Products in india


The following plastic items are banned:

  1. Stirrers, plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, straws, trays
  2. Plastic wraps or packaging around candy boxes
  3. Earbuds adorned with plastic sticks, such as balloons, ice cream sticks, candy sticks, and plastic flags
  4. Polystyrene (Thermocol) decorations

Effective December 31, 2022, the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules 2021 also prohibit plastic carry bags with thicknesses less than 75 microns and 100 microns.

EPR Authorization Renewal and Cancellation


EPR Registration granted under the PWM Rules, 2016 (as amended) does not require renewal unless requested by the Producers, Importers & Brand Owners. However, registrations can be cancelled if fraudulent documentation is provided.
